An autonomous North England takes a huge step forward

image

A seismic shift in Northern politics is taking place and fast gaining momentum with the formation of the brand new Northern Party. The party has been formed by folk from across the political spectrum which is probably the best reflection that the old politics just isn’t working for the North and the party will be trying to rectify this by pushing for autonomy for the region including a complete reboot of democratic systems.

There’s a saying that you either do politics or you have politics done to you and it would appear that many people in the North are over having politics done to them. The most pertinent example of this is fracking with vast swathes of the trans Pennine Bowland shale formation due to be turned into a toxic frackfield with no mandate from the people whatsoever and in most cases completely against their will. The Northern Party’s policy on fracking is that it should only proceed if the people of the North want it to. This only sounds eminently simplistic and obvious because of the huge democratic deficit that people currently suffer under and is the perfect example of why there is a demand for such decisions to be taken locally rather than have a cabal of oil and gas industry captured politicians impose an “ultrahazardous” industry upon the North from a thoroughly detached Westminster even though we have Doctors screaming out for the “inherently risky” process to be banned.

This isn’t the only ongoing example of such an appalling lack of democracy bordering on totalitarianism. In November of last year Chancellor George Osborne flounced into town to inform the people of Greater Manchester that we are going to have a Mayor imposed upon us even though we decisively voted against having a Mayor in 2012 and that we would have absolutely no say in the matter this time around?!? It didn’t end there. Earlier this year we were subsequently told that the Greater Manchester NHS budget would be devolved as part of the “deal” effectively ending the “national” part of the health service. All of this has been arranged behind closed doors with minimal to no public consultation. This is precisely the kind of situation that the new Northern Party will be fighting to put an end to.

We could spend pages remarking upon the unconscionable and never ending disparities between the North and the South but they are already throughly well documented. The fact that if you happen to be born 300 miles to the South you will most likely live an extra 10 years, experience a much lesser degree of infant mortality and have orders of magnitude more infrastructure spending on your behalf. The fact that we don’t have to repeat these things is thoroughly depressing, the fact that nothing has ever been done about such a morally repugnant state of affairs, more so.

The North is now fighting back and when viewed in the context of a mass political awakening sweeping down from the Scottish highlands it could be time to flush the Xanax down the toilet as the people of the North are finally starting to “do politics”. The Scots have been asked the question regarding the Union and the answer is that it will inevitably be breaking up on the basis of Scottish voter demographics alone with older Unionists dying off every day being replaced by younger advocates of independence. Perhaps more importantly than this almost half of an entire nation who we are supposed to be in partnership and harmony with have openly and forcefully declared that they are sick and tired of the current broken model of Westminster politics…and its not just the Scots that think this.

Both Yorkshire and the North East are currently experiencing a boom in devolution movements. Now Lancashire has finally joined the party and although there will be some who may have concerns over the splitting of Northern devolution votes the most important thing is that the people of the region are now eminently more politically active and will no doubt be bright enough and definitely motivated enough to be able to thrash out a way forward and as Westminster quite literally crumbles into the Thames a new form of politics is already taking its place.

  1. I think it’s great. Here in Scotland people have reawakened their interest in politics because they can see a way of making a difference.
More power to your cause, it’s time the people had the power not the Westminster establishment.

      2. Aye..and Salford even has a once proud dock where Men lost limbs and died to feed folk in Wars and where we don’t do racism cos being around different people ain’t unusual to us…do you know the most sickening thing is we had two blue dock cargo cranes, the last two, anywhere, they got torn down and scrapped under a Salford Labour Party (thats getting unseated by a Musician in a month) We’ve shared an industrious past and both been sold down the Clyde and Irwell by a party that no longer represents us. Sad, but hey, feck it, our relationship with each other on these islands has been over due a good chinwag and reboot to sort out for ages. May as well crack on with it after you’ve thankfully send 50+ SNP down to rotten old Westmonster

    1. A superb article above, i hope the new Partys lead the way in fighting Westminsters rotten policies towards them, people power `can win` lets hope the Northment movement grows in to a Massive one, and lets not all forget its G/E next week, and the best start is by not voting for the `unelected` Tories, its now time for D Camoron to effectively be `locked out of 10 Downing St before more serious damage is done to the Country, `he` and his `unelected` Tories and `unelected` Coalition have failed the Electorate, especially the sick and disabled and not withstanding the poor and unemployed who have all been witchhunted, bullied and persecuted all for the `crime` of being ill or unemployed, the Tories and their chums, the Lib-Dims should hang their heads in shame, and Camoron and Clegg should offer their largest appologies to the representatives of groups of these poor people ever seen and heard in the history of UK Politics, for a start Camoron should sack that vile despicable Tory to conclude, i wish all you Northeners good luck and all the best in your new quests!

    1. Cheers Barry, we Lancastrians have more in common with Scots than we ever did with Southerners, suffered the same didn’t vote for em..got saddled with em bullshine. Enough is enough with the Westminster baylocks, we’ll skip off into the Sunset together, round up Yorkie & Geordieland in a very loose federation and we’re off skis. I’ve been watching how nasty your oppos (and ours) are about their twisted freedom denying business..we’ve got to be seriously wise the establishment tryin to stoke up old animosities..you can see the feckers at it already..we won’t be having any of that..love or hate the Union its stopped us being a bit naughty with each other for 300 years 🙂

    1. Another Scot in support of a better deal for Northern England. We saw how rabidly the Labour and Conservative parties responded to Scottish people asking for change (it was never just about independence). Let’s see how they try to re-frame Northern English ‘nationalism’!

      1. What a sight that was hey The Empire piling onto the 8.30 to Edinburgh to go and make a panicked tit of itself. You guys are two years ahead of us in political maturity so you’ve SERIOUSLY got Labours rotten party card marked but us Northern English aren’t far behind in PASOKing Labour.

We still need to catch up quick smart though in the political maturity stakes. We’ve had a few English not getting the Northern Party saying that it’ll split the anti fracking vote in Lancs but they’re not getting that the NP aren’t a Westminster party..they’re a cessessionist post Westminster party and that their formation is as a direct result of the Scots asking a question that the whole of these islands will need to answer.

My ideal solution would be an islands wide gathering over a 6 month period where we thrash this out once and for all. Scotland is going..lets get on and deal with it hey I’m still confident that if we can shift the establishment tossers out of the way that we’re bright enough to be able to figure it out…maybe work out a way of rubbing along together for the next 300 years.

  2. I have often felt that the North of England gets as bad if not worse a deal than Scotland. It has taken a little longer but the tide of sentiment in the North has turned and the snowball effects of popular politics is on the rise. The more power that can be wrestled from westminsters dirty claws the better. The idea of the formation of a Northern party gets this scots vote and the best of luck to you. I know that the perception is that of the greedy scots in the south of England but to me the North feels more like my kind of people and those best suited to effect real and lasting change side by side with your friends and neighbours.

  3. Wow just wow, at last someone in England gets it. I can’t tell you how happy reading this makes me. It has broken my heart watching the MSM using their divide and rule tactics to set us up against each other. This blog has gone some way to help the healing of a broken heart. I hope and pray you get your message out as fast and as furious as you can. The majority of Scotland is with you all the way.

  4. I wish you every success. Be prepared for the worst excesses of the state being used against you but hold strong. Scotland is currently under a full frontal attack and smear campaign but we have reached the stage where it is only making us stronger. You will get full wholehearted support from up here. You might have to change your name if you want the scousers to jump onboard though. 😊

  5. Wow! It is SOOO good to read this! So many of my English friends have said how they too wish change and they wish they could move up here. I’m so glad that that is not necessary (not that we don’t want you! We’d have you in a HEARTBEAT!) – that England too is now ready to say ‘enough is enough. We’re not standing for children being starved, the dying forced to go out to work or lose benefits, and low paid workers treated like scroungers. That is NOT who we are!’

Welcome to the new parties who are going to DEMAND change! It’s been a bit of a rough and lonely road for us, forging ahead while being made to feel like traitors, nazis, dissentors, divisive separatists… it does my heart good to know that you understand it was NEVER about hating the English but rather hating how Westminster has treated us.

Many, MANY financial institutions have admitted that austerity is NOT the way to make things better and that Scotland’s people are NOT wrong for taking a different road! I know that some English people felt we were leaving them behind to fend for themselves. And they resented that. The sad fact was, due to the very fact of being a different nation, with different government, we couldn’t take you with us. All we could do was hope that one day you would see what we saw – and growl and show YOUR government that you need – and want – the same change! Now I can say – welcome on board! We’re so glad to have you with us! 🙂 It’ll not be easy – but it’ll be worth it!

    1. Inspirational words..thank you. We’re JUST as fed up with Westminster in the North West. We have way more in common with our brother and sister Scots than we do with the South and it’s SO important that we work like crazy to not let Project Fear II divide us because these foul people are beginning to proper panic 🙂

  6. The referendum campaign was only ever about hatred of Westminster, not of ordinary English people – who have been as comprehensively shafted by successive ‘old boys club’ governments as Scotland ever was. It does my heart good to see that the ‘real’ people of England are now also ready to begin freeing themselves from the monstrous corruption and evil heartlessness of Westminster. It will be a long, hard fight and the forces of the establishment will stoop to lows you would never have thought possible, but it will be worth it. Be brave and keep true to your principles and stand firm against their lies and fearmongering. A good first step is to challenge everything the MSM say and stop buying papers who are clearly in the pocket of the state. I wish you and your countrymen every success and cannot wait for the day when ALL of the people of Britain are free of the parasites who have bled them for so long.

    1. Perfectly said. THE most dangerous thing at the moment is the foul and corrupt establishment playing divide and rule with us but they forget two things…us Northerners have suffered just as much under Westminster rule and are just as sick of it…and the fact that we talk to each other 🙂

  7. I wish you luck, many messages from Scotland supporting this. I would say to be prepared for a struggle, Westminster rarely makes things easy, where the SNP are now came from getting good honest people elected and setting a better example than the London centric political parties.

  8. You have the perfect springboard in Cameron & Co’s own push for EVEL. Why?
Because Westminster is the Parliament of the Union. MP’s from all 4 nations are entitled to vote on all issues brought before it.
That’s an inalienable right of all MPs and all their constituents. So if there are issues we don’t want some MPs to vote on, the solution is to remove those issues from Westminster altogether and create a devolved Parliament where they can be dealt with.
Of course Westminster Elite don’t want to loosen their grip, but hold firm and play the EVEL card alongside the UK-MPs Rights one.
Greatest of good luck to you. We look forward to being your close neighbourly allies.
